Guidance counselors are also involved in consulting with parents, school staff, agency counselors, doctors, and many others in the community on an as needed basis. We actively participate in many meetings to discuss the needs of individual students and how to best assure that they are at school ready to learn.
Occasionally, we will meet with students one on one to help alleviate short term anxieties and to promote problem solving. If we feel it is a long term issue, we will work with you to find the resources within the community to address the issue. Some examples of counseling done by guidance counselors are:
- Death of a relative or pet
- Teasing/ Bullying
- Friendship problems
- Family transition (separation, divorce)
- Behavioral problems
